Mechanisms and Facades

This is a huge candy dispenser located in the corner of the Hershey’s store in Times Square, NY. A designer came up with the idea. Owens sculpted and fabricated the parts you see that include bronze paint. Most of what you see above the globe is a facade for a stainless steel contraptions that store, convey and deliver candy through the funnel into a kid’s bag.

Owens was a contractor. See the notes at the bottom of the page for more about his role in the team effort..

Kids turn the clicking chrome wheels and press buttons to get their candy. The globe and the internal mechanism are robustly constructed.

The sculpted facade covers large candy storage bins. Conveyor belts deliver candy into those spiral slides. Those mechanical devices were fabricated by others.
